Emily Cowls – work experience

About me

Right, let me first introduce myself. My name is Emily Cowls and I’m currently a third-year student at Liverpool John Moores University, studying Business Management with Marketing.

I have a passion for marketing, with a special interest in social media marketing, content creation and content planning for Instagram and TikTok, which has grown through working with these platforms in my current job. My role has given me an understanding of basic marketing skills for a B2C (business to customer) organisation.

However, this is a very small aspect of marketing, and in order for me to be successful in my career after university, I needed to gain an understanding on the whole process and look into a different type of marketing, which is B2B (business to business).

This was where my work experience with S2F Marketing came in.

Overall experience

The three days I have spent at S2F have been eye opening in ways I wouldn’t have expected. S2F made me feel so welcome, and it was clear that this team of people had a wealth of knowledge in multiple areas from copywriting, to designing, and then creating.

Everyone who works at S2F Marketing made me feel so welcome and were eager to share their expertise with me. They showed me all the processes involved in creating a campaign from the very start to the finishing steps.

Within my action packed three days, I was given tasks such as:

These tasks have allowed me to come out of these three days of work experience with a much clearer and broader understanding of what marketing is, and made me realise I can’t wait to finish university and hopefully find a job within marketing.

Breakfast Club Meeting

One aspect of my work experience I found inspirational was the S2F Breakfast Club meeting, which showed me the importance of group collaboration. It started with an idea which grew and grew with staff from different departments adding their spin on how to make it better.

By the end of the meeting, it became this great new lead for S2F and the companies they look after. This just shows the strength in team collaboration. Ten minds will always be better than one!

Key lesson I learned: Listen and get input into how to improve your idea, because there may be ways to turn it from a good idea into an exceptional idea.

Overall, S2F Marketing have made me feel so excited and inspired, and have given me a new perspective on marketing.
