S2F Marketing is delighted to announce that Antonio, our Videographer, has recently achieved his A2 CofC (Certificate of Competency) with the Civil Aviation Authority to operate drones weighing up to 4kg. This is a wonderful achievement personally for Antonio, but this also means that S2F can now offer further services for both photography and videography.

It is wonderful when members of the team take the time to improve their skills to benefit not only themselves, but S2F. Following plenty of hard work and revision, Antonio now benefits from becoming a certified remote pilot and expanding his capabilities.

In this blog, Antonio proudly explains the importance of the certificate, and what it means to the drone community.

Antonio’s thoughts

Drones have become increasingly popular in recent years, both as a hobby and for commercial purposes. However, operating a drone in the UK requires certification and registration with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and for drones larger than 249g in weight, additional qualifications are necessary. For this reason, I embarked on an A2 CofC (Certificate of Competency) training course, which is particularly valuable for drone pilots who want to expand their capabilities. So that is why I am here to give my thoughts on the benefits of having an A2 CofC drone certificate.

One of the main reasons is the increased flexibility in drone operation. The A2 CofC certification enables drone pilots to fly in more areas than the basic drone operator certificate (PfCO). With an A2 CofC certificate, pilots can fly drones weighing up to 4kg in congested areas, such as cities and towns, as long as certain conditions are met. This opens up more opportunities for commercial drone pilots, allowing them to take on a wider range of projects and expand their business.

To obtain an A2 CofC certification, drone pilots must undergo training that covers the latest regulations and best practices for drone operation. This includes topics such as airspace classification, aerodynamics, meteorology, air law, and drone performance limitations.

By going through this training, pilots gain a deeper understanding of the regulations and how to operate their drones safely and responsibly. This can help them avoid penalties for non-compliance and ensure the safety of people and property in the area.

Obtaining an A2 CofC drone certificate has numerous benefits for drone pilots. From increased flexibility in drone operation to improved safety measures and enhanced marketability, the A2 CofC certificate helps pilots take their drone operation to the next level. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a commercial drone pilot, investing in this certification can pay off in the long run, providing you with greater opportunities and a deeper understanding of the regulations and best practices for drone operation.
