Work experience reaffirms post-graduate’s love for marketing

So, my two-week work experience at S2F Marketing has sadly come to an end; I have learnt a lot during my time here, not only about marketing but myself also and I’d like to go over the immense amount of support and knowledge that I have gained since starting on that nerve-wrecking Monday morning. But before I start with their praises, a little bit about me first.

I graduated from De Montfort University with a degree in Marketing back in 2018 and like any student after graduating one question dawned on me… now what? Nearly a year later, and after a long nine months travelling in Australia, I decided it was finally time to come home and get a proper job (or as my mum would like to call it, become an adult.) My search for a job at last began, and with it so did the nerves.

Having no actual work experience in marketing was a big worry of mine and I was unsure of how it would affect me finding a job, and that’s when Warren came to the rescue; I happened to come into contact with Warren through a family friend, and after initially asking for some advice in regard to my CV and kickstarting my career in Marketing, he kindly offered me work experience, a saviour for any graduate.

I arrived the following Monday morning, with conflicting feelings of nervousness and excitement, unsure of what to think or expect. I was instantly greeted by Richard, he gave me a quick tour of the office and introduced me to the team and immediately made me feel at ease. I then finally got to meet Warren and I knew straightaway I was going to be in safe hands for the next two weeks. I got invited into a client meeting shortly after I arrived and it was an eye-opening experience for me from the get-go, not only did it give me a huge insight into how the company works but what was to be expected of me during my time here.

My tasks throughout the first week varied from research, to editing webpages, to finding images for their campaigns; all have been very beneficial for my understanding into what my future role in marketing will entail and as Warren has mentioned, it’s not as glamorous as it can always appear. My second week focused on my future in marketing and the specific path that I wanted to follow. Warren was more than helpful during this week, not only did he give me plenty of useful advice, but through his support and knowledge he helped me grow in confidence also, something that will be more than valuable in the future.

My time at S2F Marketing therefore has been truly inspirational and has reaffirmed my love for marketing. I am extremely grateful for the things that I have learnt over the two weeks, and I would like to say a HUGE thanks to Warren and the whole team for making my time here so beneficial and always accommodated me despite their busy workloads. Overall, I am leaving S2F Marketing feeling a lot more confident and believe I am finally equipped to be entering the world of work.
